Chinese Christian Fellowship - UH — A Brief History
Our Beginning
In January 1972, a group of students from Hong Kong attending the University of Hawaii at Mānoa envisioned and desired a Chinese fellowship to study the Bible, pray, share, and reach out to other Hong Kong students.
At that time, several lived at the Baptist Student Union Dormitory. They approached the Baptist Student Center to request the use of the Center’s fellowship room on Saturday afternoons. Initially, a steering committee was formed to organize weekly programs. The fellowship held its first formal summer camp in 1974.
Soon after, the group formally registered at the University of Hawaii as an on-campus organization and appointed its first working committee. Within a few years, over 200 students attended the CCF regularly while studying in Hawaii. God blessed CCF with abundant resources to help its members grow in His knowledge and service.
Maintaining Fellowship Across the World
After graduating from UH and dispersing to various parts of the world, we have continued to stay connected through social media and email groups, as well as through periodic reunions and gatherings held in diverse locations, including Honolulu, Hawaii; Hong Kong; Vancouver, British Columbia; and the San Francisco Bay Area, among others.
By God’s grace, many brothers and sisters from this fellowship have faithfully responded to His calling by pursuing seminary training after college and have gone on to serve as missionaries, pastors, and Bible scholars, as well as serving in Christian organizations that promote God’s kingdom, dedicating their lives to the Lord’s work in both full-time and part-time ministries.
A Legacy of Service
As most of us now enter our senior and retirement years, even more members are pursuing further Bible education in seminary and answering the call to missionary work after retiring from their careers. Through the years, we have witnessed God’s faithfulness in sustaining our fellowship and in using its members to extend His kingdom across the world.
A Vision for the Future
From our beginnings in 1972, God has knit our hearts together in His love, guiding us across continents and seasons of life. As we look back with gratitude, we also look forward in faith, praying that our fellowship will continue to bear fruit in His kingdom, nurturing faith, fostering unity, and inspiring service for generations yet to come.
